What’s this site about?

Deciding to move to a new country is one thing, but why write about it? For me, it comes down to two goals, one personal and another, hopefully, a bit more altruistic.

The initial reason I started this blog many years ago was just to have a central way to keep friends and family updated as our journey progressed, since at the time what would come to be called “social media” was much less of a thing, and blogs are easy to follow without much effort. When we ended up not moving, back in 2012, I kept the blog around as sort of a time capsule.

In the intervening years, as our research into becoming Canadian continued, we discovered that many of the families who had come before us had left a ton of informative content behind on sites of their own as well as lengthy posts on immigration related forums. I found a lot of that writing not only useful, as breadcrumbs we could follow, but also inspirational.

Now that we’ve finally made our big move, my secondary purpose here is to share our ongoing adventures with a larger audience, in case it can be of use to anyone else. So if you’re thinking of moving to Canada, or if you’re just a bit curious about what it’s like for a family of Americans integrating into Canadian society, feel free to poke around the site…and also don’t be shy about asking questions! I love to share whatever we’ve figured out so far, whenever I have the time. If you’re curious, here are a few links to get you started:

One last note, as it’s come up sometimes when folks ask questions…this site is NOT currently monetized in any way and contains no referral links, nor accepts endorsement requests of any kind. If any product or commercial web resource is mentioned, that’s purely the personal opinion of the author. If this status ever changes, there will be an update clearly outlining how things are working…but for now, my only goal is to share information.
